Have you had a chance to see "Love in the Time of Corona", a four-episode series on the Freeform channel? I thought it was amazing and a very accurate account of what we've been going through. It featured different aspects of relationships and how they each had to faced various challenges of old and young, married and single, gay and straight. I couldn't stop watching it, even with my two littles trying their absolute best to be louder than the TV. At one point, I literally had one kid on my back and the other on my legs and I still couldn't stop watching! I've been in quarantine myself, mandated by the government of my new home, so I definitely empathized.
Here are my takeaways:
- Love really cannot be quarantined.
Our lives have drastically changed in a multitude of ways we have never experienced before. And we have remained resilient and found any way we could within mandates to show love to our family, friends, and lovers. Who would have know that parades would be so needed and so important? And don't get me started on video chats. It has been very essential to our existence as of late.
- Our time indoors has given us time to talk things through, maybe for the first time.
In the past, we've had freedoms we took for granted. We could go do just about anything we wanted, when we wanted, with whomever we wanted. We may have missed those precious moments because we always took for granted having more time. You'll visit tomorrow. You'll call next week. You'll pick them up next holiday. But what if
you've never really known the person you think you know. Do they adore you? Do they hate you? Have they just been existing with you because its comfortable? What have we been missing before in the midst of our "busy"? Relationships have been experiencing both mending and severing.
- The pandemic has made us reach in our back pocket and pull out things we didn't even know were still in there.
Things have been tough. Plenty of businesses have had to revamp just to stay afloat and maintain payroll for the people they employ. Some have unfortunately gone out of business because they could not survive the pandemic. Even worse, there are people that are still unemployed. Miraculously though, there are people who have found their voice. Forced to recreate themselves, or reintroduce themselves to the world through new ventures because they've been sitting on an idea, but never had the time to launch it into action before now. And because this inquire situation has coerced is into creating new streams of revenue for our families.
While some are healing, mending, praying, relaxing, reinventing, working from home, and making it work, people are still dying. My prayers go out to those who have experienced this horrible virus, who's lives are completely changed by it, and those who have suffered loss of family and friends.
Until later, my friends.
If you'd like to catch the show, you can stream it on Hulu.
